August Selfie Check In

In The Picture

Linking up with Christy over at Urban Muser for this month's {in the picture}.

Hi.
This month's theme was something like take a selfie somewhere where you'll remember where you were.  Or something like that.  I've been so frickin' busy I read it about a week into August and I'm paraphrasing; poorly.  I think the idea was when you look at the photo a year from now, you'll remember the day you took it.  If that wasn't this month's theme, well it was the theme for me.

If I want to sum up my August 2012....this is it.  Wash, Rinse, Repeat.  I'm certain this little 4-ply image will bring me right back.  In fact next month I could just cut and paste....well maybe not the too hot for words undershirt thing, but everything else.

Selfie Collage

I tried hard to get myself and the setting in this one....that may have been the theme now that I think about it.
This is the ONE day I went to the beach this summer (for an hour).  I like sitting on these large rocks away from the sandy beach.  No one else sits here so I get it all to myself and there are no kids running around and I don't get sandy.  I think I'm a curmudgeon.

Dip
Dip

Last weekend I went out shooting pics and ended up treating myself to a nice dinner al fresco with two glasses of wine.  And there was bread and chicken too.  I know this is a yucky selfie, but the ones I took on the pier came out blurry.

Outside
Outside

On a really C-r-u-m-m-y DAY!
I took myself out shooting pics to try to cheer myself up.  Look how well it worked!  Yah.
But, I know right where I was sitting watching the world go by.

New Kicks
New Kicks

This weekend I'm celebrating the 21st anniversary of my 29th birthday.
This impulse buy is my anecdote attempt to remedy that.  I can't afford a sports car.
I put 'em right on in the parking lot after my purchase.

So, there it is.   For what it's worth; and it's worth what you paid for it.
Next month is September (I hate to even think about it) so we'll see if I do a better job honing in on the theme.  I don't feel like my selfies have grown at all.  I'm not putting myself down, just analyzing.  Maybe this fall I'll step it up, with those bright orange Chucks.

Scavenger

Linking with Ashley for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  Whoot.

Wrapping up the last weekend of August-boo hoo.  The only thing that's out there on the horizon that's smile inducing-football season.  It helps.

Have to make my SHS a quick one this week.  Working.  Bummer.  Got to make the money to buy the dog food though; not to mention to pay for that $2,000 leg surgery for the little miss.  Remind me again. Why do I have pets?  BTW-Tula is now walking a smidge less than 1/2 mile a couple times a day.  Progress.

School: A little college fund jar out there.  Hope the guy made some cash for school.  It starts soon.  He was quite good.  Don't ask me about that blue side line and the pink starfishy thing.  Just playing.

Third Eye Gone

Rule of Thirds:  If you know me, then you know I was all a flutter when I found this.  Yum.  Love me that street art and graffiti.  Got a couple of thirds here-the photographic kind and the elusive 3rd eye.

Side Profile:  I shared a BW photo of this girl a week or so back.  One of my fave people shots from Cuba.  Isn't she beautiful?  A singer from the Cuban Children's Chorus.

Small:  Also sporting a side profile.  Waiting with his "parents" to board the ferry across Casco Bay.  Guess who is the boss of this threesome.  Yes, it's all about Henry.

Motion:  Oooh, I love this photo.  Another Cuba shot.  It truly was hot there, and not everywhere had a/c.  Here's one of a chorus member trying to keep cool....likely without much luck.

Thanks for stopping in for a hello.  Last week I missed the SHS-say it isn't so-happy to be back in the groove this week.  Thanks to Ashley too, for being a wonderful hostess/mom.  Now, off to work.

Weekend Reflections

Breezing in to say "hey" and drop a reflection or two.  Thanks to James at Weekend Reflections.

Summer is winding down.  I HATE it that the light is slipping from the sky earlier and earlier.  Time to get out my happy lamp to off-set the SAD thing.  Geez.  I did finally do my version of going to the beach the other day-just for an hour or so in the late afternoon.  First time all summer.  I stay away from the sandy beach and find myself a quiet spot on the large rocks that serve as a sea wall during winter storms.  I usually have the area all to myself and with a great view-that you can see in my glasses.  I like it.  No sandy toes either.

I love this photo I took at the Museum of the Revolution in Cuba.  A window ajar over looking a courtyard.  I'm afraid no one but my reflection friends will appreciate, so thanks for looking.

Here's another non-reflected view of the second story.  Second story squares, 3rd story arches.  It was stunning.

I'll end with this dreamy water scene...taken as the light was slipping below the tree line.  That's what I'm saying...it's too soon to whisper goodbye to summer.

Thanks for stopping by "the Ears" to check out my reflection shots.  Hope you have a fabulous weekend.  I'm working-how not fair is that?

Cuba Photo Dump-Repetition Run Wild

Linking with Kat today over at the Kat Eye Studio for this month's Exploring with a Camera subject on repetition.  Each month Kat covers a different topic.  I find this one of the most helpful series out there in blogland for noticing what exists already in my images and focus as I take more.  It connects my thoughts with my eye....and that's a good thing.  Kat offers a variety of classes which I also recommend.  At least "Dew Drop Inn" to her site and look around a bit.

I walked the beach the other evening alone as Tula is still recovering from her surgery. (BTW we're up to "granny walks" down the sidewalk a few driveways and back).  God I'm already off track.  So...at the beach I didn't figure I'd find much repetition, but I could think about it anyway.  Holy schmoly was I wrong.  I realized repetition is everywhere; in nature, man made, and even in our minds and bodies.  I proceeded to think over life and how it repeats both in the good and the bad and blah, blah, blah.

Kat mentioned a variety of possibilities: object, shape, color, line, message, light, and a combination of those elements.  I did find repetition at the beach, but mostly wanted to think about it and then check the archives.

I also went down to the harbor another day and found repetition in abundance.

I especially like this image.

I have been working diligently on Cuba images-talk about just keep coming and coming...phew.  I have put in 60 hours of editing thus far (I'm getting faster the more I do) and have plenty more hours to go, but thought it would be great to share a few that include repetition.

I haven't shared many Cuba shots because my primary duty is to get the chorus their photos first.  Here are some primarily atmosphere shots from the first couple days at the hotel, a tour of the Museum of the Revolution, and at the performance with two children's choirs held later inside the "Hall of Mirrors" at the museum .  I believe the tour company kept us off the real streets for the first few days while the chorus familiarized with the area.

I waited for this shot-quite awhile so people would get off the steps.  See those small dark holes above the curve?  Legit-bullet holes from the revolution.  Glad they didn't hit that glorious set of steps.

OK....this is repetition too.  A gazillion people.  Just imagine me running around trying to get photos of all these people!  Yikes!, but I did it.  I think I have a candid(s) of every person.

Thank you for holding on thru this photo novelette.  Now time to work on some more photos.  I'm looking forward to getting away from the polish, and working on some street scenes.

Weekend Reflections

Linking with Sir James for this week's Weekend Reflections and also procrastinating other things I should be doing.  You know how that goes, I'm sure.

On the Docks
On the Docks

I like stopping from time to time at this wharf at Wells Harbor because you can actually walk down onto the docks.  There are some places that (out of necessity) frown upon that and other places that are super stinky where you wouldn't want to even if you could.  Bait barrels-yuck.

Although this is a working wharf, as long as you watch your step, you'll make it okay.

Have a great weekend.  Hope there are reflections out there for you to gather.

Scavenging on Sunday

Linking with Ashley at her new snazzy website for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  Bring it on!

Didn't know if there was a new button or not, and for some reason the blogger layout thingy is being disgruntled today and not letting me copy any buttons...so follow the link above if you want in.

Mobile:  OK...Loser.  Big time.  No mobile phone, but small phone bill.
So, although this is not a mobile home, it is a camper that is mobile.  C'mon, I'm being super clever here.  And BTW-it's for sale $2,500.

Hanging by a Thread:  Or a rope.  Down at the docks again, killing time and ignoring tourists.  We got like 3 weeks left 'til they thin out.  Really, I'm ready.  Maybe it's me that's hanging by a thread...then again, maybe it Maybelline.  Oooh, I'm a little punchy today.  Sorry.

I know I took a lot of liberty with the prompts this week, and threw in a couple extra shots too.  Thanks for visiting and bearing with me.  Hope you have a great day.

Weekend Reflections

So, another Friday-my grandmother promised me that the older one gets the faster time goes.  She was right.  I wish though it would go a little faster on the week days, a little slower on the weekends.  Right?

Linking with the master of all things reflected, James for Weekend Reflections.

My friend's band played last weekend.  Couldn't get a good shot of her on the drums due to really harsh mixed lighting....until I remembered the ol' reflection in the window trick.

Working those Cuba images.   It's a process.  I need to ditch my full time job to have enough time.  Lovely reflected arches in the pool at Hotel Quinta Avenida in Havana.

Fighting the Blues
Fighting the Blues

Went out shooting one evening-and rain hit.  Hard.  I wasted some time and finally found a covered locale to shoot at least a few when the rain eased up.

That's about it.  Now back to work.  Maybe if it's quiet today I can work on that preferred job on the sly.  Have a great weekend.
