Weekly Scavenger Addiction

Linking with Ashley for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Can't help it.  Love this linky.  It's like I can't not do it....I just have to.  Thanks Ashley.

Light Just Right 22/365
Light Just Right 22/365

Yellow:  Yes, I know that's a pink flower, but it was the luscious golden-yellow light that made me pull the car over to steal a snap from the garden of the woman who lives on the corner.

Five Little Pumpkins
Five Little Pumpkins

Getting Ready:  If you're at all concerned, don't be.  The Halloween cards have been up in the stores for two weeks now.  There's still time to prepare.  Honestly.  They'll put those away just in time for the Christmas selections to stock the shelves.
All right, I'll stop bitching.  These little guys were outside a restaurant in town.  Only thing, now I've got that 5 Little Pumpkin song stuck in my head.  And no, these were not sitting on the gate and none of them said "oh my it's getting late".

Sidewalk Art 23/365
Sidewalk Art 23/365

Bright:  Love me this photo-what a great design.  Unexpected find of some sidewalk art earlier this week.  I fear the rain of the last couple days may have taken this away, but maybe they'll make new ones!

Never Good
Never Good

Teeny Tiny:  OK watch me stretch.....I think this woman may be in a teeny tiny bit of trouble.  And NO, that's no me!

Electric Lines
Electric Lines

Connections:  Sometimes I don't know what it is that makes me push the trigger on my camera.  This is pretty ugly stuff, but something about it said "shoot me", so I did.  I think it might be nice if all power/telephone lines were underground eventually.

That's another SHS in the can.  Keeping me going on the tough days-making me take photos of things I might otherwise pass by.  I suppose that makes it more an educational tool rather than an addiction.  Either way, I like it.  Thanks for visiting my little teeny tiny corner of the blogosphere.  Much appreciated.  Have a great day.

Selfie City

Linking with Christy over at Urban Muser for September's {in the picture} check in.  I'm giving myself a mini round of applause for doing this for 9 months now-sticking with it.  I can definitely go another 3 months!  Applause for Christy for hosting this too.  I'm sure it is time consuming, but it is appreciated.  You could join in too-it's not too late.

In The Picture

New perspective.
Last month I mentioned that I felt like I wasn't really expanding my selfie repertoire, and I'm sort of still feeling that way.  It's OK.  I'm having trouble blogging regularly-and that's OK too.  It will happen.  I did start a 365, and that daily exercise is good practice-I've had to push myself on that too. I am working on taking less pictures, thinking more, and finding something good with way fewer clicks per day.  That can be difficult.

All this boils down to one of my fave selfies this month.

A Walk 1/365
A Walk 1/365

Something I've realized, I really like taking and viewing images of hands and feet-in general, but also including my own.  I find they tell a lot about a scene, a day, an emotion-even though they are seemingly void of any expression.  I am not reluctant to show my face-I just like these extremities.  Whatever that might mean.
This is sort of a new perspective as it includes motion-and the abstractness of that also appeals to me.

I Want to Fly Away 6/365
I Want to Fly Away 6/365

Here's another.  The emotion in this is very sad to me-even though it says dreams and someone else might interpret as uplifting.  My hand says sadness....to me anyway.

Selfie Collage
Selfie Collage

I think one of the problems is I don't plan on doing selfies.  Sometimes in an environ I'm unmoved, so I decide to add myself to liven things up  (I guess I'm a lively sort)....Lots of RR tracks as tripod examples here.  In this case I think the spontaneity worked, but I think if I could be better planned, I might get away from what I'm accustomed to.  In general I don't take staged or planned photos-I shoot what I find along the way "as is where is" which I think plays into it.

OK...that's it for this month.  Had to leave you with a face shot-how awesome a find-water that made such a mirror. Didn't plan this one either.
Looking forward to seeing what the rest of my selfie die-hards have come up with for their new perspectives.  Thanks for stopping by to see mine.

I've Been Scavenging

Linking with Ashley for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  Go ahead, link on up yourself.  You'll be glad you did.

I liked the topics this week.  A good chance for creative interpretation.  Strangely, sometimes I think a list is pretty easy and I'll see someone else say they were stumped.  Other weeks I'll get hung up on one or two and see that someone else thought it was easy.  No matter....there are always interpretations that make me think (or say out loud) "why didn't I think of that?"

Here's what I came up with this week.

Cracked
Cracked

Cracked:  Wall outside apartment building.

At the Start
At the Start

Fallen:  Yup.  It's started.  Me not happy.  They're pretty at first, and then....there's raking, cold, darkness.  OK, let's go back to they're pretty at first.  They look a little better with Kim Klassen scripted texture.

Sky Waves 18/365
Sky Waves 18/365

Ordinary Color:  Blue is definitely ordinary, but this sky was not.  The clouds were delightful.

All That Grows
All That Grows

Bokeh:  Not a great bokeh, but there's a little in there if you look around.  Love these flowers outside a local bank.  I notice they got some high end landscapers taking care of them.  Wish I could afford to have them work over at my house.

La Bahia by the Harbor
La Bahia by the Harbor

Fence:  Sneaking in a recent Cuba process.  It does have that blue fence around it, along with the open air taxis.  I'd like to say that I sat here and had a red wine, or mojito, or something, but I only drove by.  Looks like a fun place to enjoy views of the harbor.  I did take a ride in one of those taxis though and that was definitely fun, and a little scary.

OK, I'm all scavenged out for another week and looking forward to seeing everyone else's interpretations.  Again thanks to hostess Ashley.  This continues to be a linky I rarely miss.  Have a great day.

Reflections on the Weekend.

Linking with James for Weekend Reflections.

All About 50 13/365
All About 50 13/365

I've shared shots of this restaurant window before-even better when looking from one side through to the other.  With all the number 50's all over it I find it a little magnet for my camera.  The restaurant is called 50 Local because all the food they serve comes from within a 50 mile radius of it's location.

I Am Not the Window Washer
I am Not the Window Washer

I kind of don't get this....can people not see the big ass handle!?  The door made for a canvas though of the lobby and trees beyond.

In Gail's Sunglasses
In Gail's Sunglasses

Rooftop view of Havana in my friend's sunglasses.  A little reflection of moi in there as well.

Thanks for stopping by and reflecting on my reflections.  Much appreciated.  Have a great weekend.

Scavenger City

Linking with "the" Ashley for SHS.  You could link up too you know.

Yes indeedy, Sunday a.m. and time for the Scavenger.  I really can't figure out why I like doing this so much, but I do.  It's all good.

Sun Kissed
Sun Kissed

Kiss:  OK, I live alone and my dog hates the camera...there ain't no kissin' 'round here.  I'm stretching to make this work.
Although this photo probably breaks too many rules of "good" photos, I like it anyway.  All that sun/lens flare is legit, nothing added.  So it's blown out on the left....but look at all that other cool stuff.  Did you forget the subject was "kiss" yet?  I'm dazzling you with other things, so you'll forget that I'm off topic.

Scratch Behind the Ear 7/365
Scratch Behind the Ear 7/365

Askew:  My brother's cat Travis.  Like how his face is a bit askew and how he's tucked in the corner of the image-sort of makes it askew, doesn't it?
Travis and I were avoiding a gazillion kids at my nephew's birthday party last Sunday.

Wishes
Wishes

Speaking of the party.....
Fragrant:  I was so NOT going to do flowers for this.  Cake and what about the smell of those candles?  Do you think there's potential for a new perfume for one (or both) of those?  Maybe not, but they are both fragrant.
Looks like that shirt may be a little fragrant as well.

Fall 10/365
Fall 10/365

Simple:  Fall is here.  Simple as that.  Already a banner year for acorns. Extra happy squirrels coming soon to a yard near you.

Late Day at the Farm Stand
Late Day at the Farm Stand

Plant:  Plant stuff in the spring, get stuff in the fall.  Right?  I'm not a gardener, but I'm thinking that's how it works with a whole lot of weeding and watering in between.

That's it.  It's a wrap.  Thanks for stopping by and saying hi.
Oooh.  I'm rhyming.  Bad.  Gotta go.  Have a wonderful day.

Weekend Reflections

Linking with James for Weekend Reflections.

Good reflections week for me.  Maybe it's the time of year and the sweetness of its light, or maybe I was just in the right places at the right times.  I'll take whatever the reason.

Laura

The tourists have thinned leaving more space for the locals to enjoy the beach, but no swimming.  Brrrr.

Another afternoon I stopped in a little village with a Mill Pond.  This offered mirror reflections at their very best.

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger Time...yay.  Linking with Ashley for this week's SHS.  Thanks Ashley.

Monochromatic:  Rust is a color, right?  Newly installed cover for one of those clean out thingys.  Describing this is outside my expertise area.  It's like a sewer hole cover.
I thought the textures were kind of cool.

Starts with the Letter....B:  Balloons.  This was one of those weirdo "what if I held balloons in the air? because I'm totally bored" shots.  BUT, I really like the way it came out.  And Kim's dreams texture doesn't hurt either.

Upside Down:  I was about upside down when I shot this upside down leaf.  Fall.  No.  Say it isn't so.

Laura Lee

Hair:  My best friend.  That's why her eyes smile when she looks at me.  While in Cuba she had her hair done in cornrows which proved to be much cooler than wearing it down....or at least that's what she said.

Soft:  I can't think of something much softer than my cat's fur.  I love my sweet cat so much.

On another note...

....this is my neighbor's cat Leo.  He's a cool cat, and I like him, but he tormenting my sweet Princess P thru the window.  She's hissing and crashing into the glass and can't seem to sleep anymore.  She's a 13 yr old lady-she's totally stressed out.

Anyone have suggestions other than this?.....

We've set up a missle defense system to thwart attacks, but you can see she's still on guard.

Kind of ruins the HGTV beauty that should be happening in my dining room too.
Ideas?

Thanks for checking out my pics for the day.  Off to my 6 yr old nephew's birthday party with multiple 6 yr old friends and their little 3 and 4 yr old siblings.  I'll take aspirin first.  Have a great day.

Weekend Reflections

Linking with my friend James for this week's Weekend Reflections.

Actually got a few reflections this week.  Yay me.  I love 'em, just have to make sure I spot and capture AND post.

Outside Youngs
Outside Young's

These type of window reflections are some of my favorites.  There are multiple levels: inside, outside, and through so it distorts reality.  How cool is that?
Young's is a main stay of downtown Durham NH where the University of NH is located.  You can always count on a great breakfast or lunch if you're passing through.  And usually a bit of a wait too.

View through the Tree BW
View Through a Tree BW

I'm sure I've shared this building, this river and falls a number of times.  I've also shared this view.  It's from the deck of a condominium I've had for sale for about 9 months.  BUT it's scheduled to close in a few weeks (yay!-the seller is so happy with me) so I won't be tip-toeing up on the deck for a great vantage point after that.

Two Flags
Two Flags

And here's my fave for this week.  One from Cuba in a narrow and crowded alley this car was passing through.  I spotted the flags and did a quick snap.  What I didn't see was the woman beside me waving hello.  I like the feel of this image-kind of takes me back to the crowded street scene in the Godfather, well, without the urgency.

Thank you for visiting and checking up on my reflections.  Got to stay on task.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Photo Heart

Linking with Kat and the others who have discovered the satisfaction of the Photo Heart Connection.

Date Night
Date Night

Date Night is a sweet photo. This couple stayed on the docks sitting enjoying the view and one another-cozy, quiet, and from where I watched, seemingly blissful. In this photo I thought I caught what I witnessed. I guess there's a part of me that wishes I was sitting on that dock in such imagined bliss.

If I'm being honest, and if you read me enough, you know I am...I don't really have a favorite photo this month-one that moved me enough for me to notice.  Date Night will just have to suffice.  I went scouring the archives and nothing jumped out at me as "wow".  There are good photos there, but in looking over them, I believe my heart hasn't been too connected to the process this past month.  I've still made some good images, but there was only one night I can remember going out shooting when I felt any tug of excitement-and it was a subtle tug, not one that was stirring.  My heart has been absent from the process....and I've felt that, and I'm sure my images reflect that as well.

Last Monday was my birthday-a Labor Day baby, how fitting.  I decided to begin my 2nd 365-thought it a good way to record my 50th year, and to perhaps push me to get out there and shoot-to make it work.  I've been so lost in processing Cuba, I've had to let the art of taking photos fall aside.  Not enough balance there.

Three-Six-Five
Three-Six-Five

I created this 365 logo thingy. I am connected to this collage and 9/10ths of the photos layered within I took in August.  Maybe that makes my heart-photo connect a bit better.

I like making these layered collages and often include a selfie component.  They can be immensely personal-often too much so to share.  I really don't know what they mean; I just keep putting images together until I sense that it's done.  One of the things I like is, similar to a composition by Mozart, there's always something more that you didn't notice before.  Upon subsequent reflection, you become aware and find it quite obvious and wonder why you didn't sense it earlier.

Does that makes sense or did I lose you in the depths of my right brain?  I did not say my art was genius like Mozart's music is....I said that I don't get it all on one intake, the same as when I listened to Mozart.  There.  I feel better having clarified that.

I need to go to bed.

Thanks for taking a look at my PHC for the month of August.  Hoping my everyday 365 practice will offer up more heart connected images in coming months.  Thanks to Kat for being that mostest hostess.

Morning Scavenger

Linking with Ashley for the weekly Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  Got my java and I'm ready to go.

Forgive me for supplementing my post with a few archive shots from my Cuba trip.  Newly processed this week though.  That sort of counts, right?

Thanks for taking a peek at my images today.  Hope you have a very happy long weekend.  To wax the car or to not wax the car, that's the question.  Always a big job, but the extra day?....
Not sure if I'll make use of the time, or take a nap instead.
