Scavenger, Sandy Edition

Linking with Ashley for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

I imagine the weather terrorists (that's what I call the weather reporters) are licking their chops on this one.  They get so excited and love to go into crisis mode.  I think they stress people out way more than necessary.

It does seem like a legitimate storm barreling up the Eastern coast line of the US.  I don't watch TV or listen much to radio, but do hope my blogger friends far and wide are safe with the oncoming storm.  Mama nature sure is gettin' her bitch on.  Thank goodness for the SHS to take every one's crisis mode down one level.  I sure hope there are eggs, milk and bread left when I get to the grocery....and red wine.  It should definitely be eggs, milk, bread and wine rather than just the first three.

I'll go on to the hunt as I'm beginning to speak gibberish.  I do have many endearing qualities however.

Crossing 51/365

Pattern:  Mama said don't play on the RR tracks.  She said eat your veggies, always make your bed, don't stare-it's not polite, and go...you might meet someone.  What was I saying?, oh yes, not only the tracks, but the cool overpass bridge make great patterns.

Machine:  Yah....all night, all day.  I think my fingers might freeze that way.

Scandal in a Small Town
Scandal in a Small Town

Sign or Logo:  Have you heard the story about the Zumba instructor/prostitution ring?  There are 100 johns on "the list" and their names are being released in little batches.  Our town is now noted as not only the summer escape of George H. W. Bush, but also of the Zumba prostitution ring.  And I thought the media hype for Sandy was bad.  If there wasn't an election and a hurricane, trust me....it would be all Zumba all the time.

Rocks or Stones:  Because I wonder too much, I often wonder what the hell an oak leaf is doing on the middle of the beach with no oak trees anywhere around.  There are little stones too....I get why they're there.

Evening Commute 54/365
Evening Commute
54/365  (look at that....already in the 50's!)

Sparkle:  I've been playing a lot with low POV.  This was a shot from Friday evening...sun heading down, headlights turning on, and yours truly stretched out on the sidewalk on Main Street.  People may be starting to talk....unless that Zumba scandal has them preoccupied.

I'm really punchy, must be the fluctuating barometer or a full moon or something.  Thanks for checking in with my SHS for this week.  Stay high and dry.

Scavenger City

Linking with the wonderful Ashley for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  Drop in.

Hello fellow scavengers and those of you sitting on the sidelines wondering if you should join in.  You should.  I forget how nervous I was about linking with my first meme a couple years back.  Once you do, there's no going back.  You can take that to the bank.  Not only that you make a nice assortment of blogger friends as pure bonus.

Foggy Morn
Foggy Morn

Orange or Pink:  I went with orange-it was unseasonably warm yesterday, making perfect conditions for fog.  I find fog sad and dreary, but it makes for good photo ops.

Murphy's Rule of Thirds
Murphy's Rule of Thirds

Faceless Portrait:  Kind of lame, but I was filling a prompt for "rule of thirds" in a flickr group.  The "Murphy's" part is, never fails that your dog slips into the image when you're not paying attention.
BTW-Tula is just starting to take walks off leash...since her surgery in July.  And right away she's into photo bombing.  Hmmmm.

While I have you as a captive audience, I thought I'd share a few more Cuba "from the top" images.  I know SHS is not the place for a little photo dump, so you can scroll on if you're not interested.  I'm having a hard time finding a way to share all the pics I took.

Cozy:  When I want to get cozy....this little lady is always willing to snuggle.  She looks cozy even by herself.  Love my cat;  I really do.

Stacked:  Fallen leaves all stacked up in a puddle.

Thanks for taking a peek at my scavenger images....especially with the extras thrown in.  Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.  I'm off to cut the lawn reeeaaalllllyyyy short so some of the falling leaves will blow into my neighbor's yards.  I hate raking.

(I can't get my SHS button to work.  Is anyone else having this problem?)

Rainy Sunday.  Kind of gives one the excuse to be a little lazy, that and I finally have a day off after 13 straight.  That just ain't nat'rul working that much.  If I was getting rich it would be one thing, but trust me, it's another.  SHS is the perfect reason to take a little down time.  Thank you Ashley.

Water Drops or Flowing:  Certainly had enough opportunity to capture raindrops lately.  I do like this shot, so I suppose I should be somewhat thankful, but I'm now done being thankful.  Give me some sun please.

Becky's Tea 41/365

Faithful:  I have a group of friends-we're very faithful to one aother.  Although it's hard to get the 5 of us together, each time we manage, there's always laughter.  We got together the other night and hot tea was served.  The steam from my friend's tea was caught perfectly in the light.  How can you not take this photo?  She got out her iphone and snapped one too.

Bug in the Window

Then and Now:  I know, my mind is kind of weird.  I have many other endearing qualities however.  The window is an old one, but that bug crawling around is definitely alive now, or at least the other day when I took this photo.

Fingertips:  I'm really struggling, yet keeping up with my 365.  I started one (2nd time around) to renew my everyday practice, but some days I'm pushing to find something, anything to capture.  Here's a moment by the river that ended up working out.  Thankful to have the word "fingertips" on my mind which encouraged me to be a bit more creative.

At the Gallery
At the Gallery

On the Bucket List:  What?  Ride a bike inside an art gallery wasn't on the list?  Whoops.
No seriously, going to an art gallery isn't something I normally do for myself.  Seemed like a good bucket list item-I didn't want to eat candy.  This bike happened to be part of the decor.  So I noticed the bike more than the art-yah.  That's just me.

And that's it for another week of Scavenging around.  Hope you have a fabulous day.

Scavenger Time

Linking with Ashley for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Confession.  Writing this on Saturday night with a glass of red wine, rather than Sunday morning with a cup of coffee.  I vowed to go to the gym first thing on Sunday.  And then, why am I drinking red wine?  I'm not really thinking things through very well, am I?  I'm mentioning the wine as a disclaimer for mis-spellings, run on sentences, topics that go way off subject never to return, and the like.   You know; just in case.

Shadow:  Rain.  A lot of rain.  Light rain, but daily rain and gray and drab and yuck, and hard to shoot photos with any kind of inspiration OR find shadows.  This subtle shadow will have to do.

Scratched

Key:  Lock?  Key?  Need key to open?  And Knack starts with K, just like key does.  Cool tool box though, huh?

Off to Work
Off to Work

Smile:  Let me redeem myself with this warm smile.
I love this image from Cuba.  I was walking a side street passing her, and she asked me to take her photo.  At first I said no, because often when you take some one's photo, they expect money.  But she didn't.  I guess she just enjoyed posing.  Cuba's Next Top Model?  Isn't she lovely?

For Sale SOOC
For Sale (SOOC)

Unedited:  I didn't realize the addiction was so strong.  I'm dying to get in there and clean this up just a little bit.  It's a good image, but I'm itching to make a few adjustments, but that's not what "unedited" means.

Ketchup
Ketchup

Spice:  Now you're realizing the red wine is having a little effect that coffee wouldn't....
I am able to cook, but I rarely make anything fancy, clever, or involved.  So sue me.  Ketchup is a wonderful enhancement to most any dish.  Who needs thyme, parsley, or mustard seed?  Really.  Ketchup covers so many sins.

Okay.  I'm all scavenged up for another week albeit (albeit-who uses albeit when they're drinking coffee?  No one, that's who.) with a few stretches and twists.  Thanks for visiting today-always appreciated.  You can now think of me at the gym sweating and stuff like that. : )

Photo-Heart Connection

September's edition of the Photo Heart Connection over to Kat's place.  A great chance to reflect on the photos you've taken over the past month, select one most meaningful to you, and share how much or little about why it touches you.  Thanks Kat.

Never too late to join in.  Never an obligation.  Fits me to a T.

Dad BW
Dad BW

This is one of the first photos of my father I've been able to "score".  Oh I've taken plenty....but haven't been able to catch one I like.  I think it's because he is an energetic and expressive person.  I have found I get all kinds of goofy-faced results when I take photos of people who use a lot of facial and hand expressions while talking.  In fact he's talking here, but he's telling me something on the "hush-hush" so he's keeping it low key.

My father turned 77 this past month.  He still works every day, drives with plenty of zip on the accelerator and without overusing the brakes, and is all go.  He knows everybody in town or so it seems as every week-yes every week-I hear "oh, you're John D's daughter".  I also am told I look like my mother, but that's a different story.  Seriously, I can't get away with anything without being noticed.  I am the type who prefers to be anonymous (that's anon-ah-mouse).

I work for my father in a business he adores and I can't stand.  I am frustrated at work and I feel badly I'm not more cheerful there, cognizant of the time I am spending with him, and how wonderful it is to have a boss that indeed loves you.  Mostly I bitch and moan and wish I were anywhere but stuck.

With that it mind, this image is a reminder of the good things about him, and the person he is that I sometimes overlook somewhere between the bitch and the moan.

That's my PHC for September.  Looking forward to visiting with the others....the stories are a pleasure to read.  The feelings behind an image are often just things we imagine.  It's nice to hear what a photo has to say from the viewpoint of the creator rather than from my take as an observer.
