Off-setting the Present

It's stinking cold here today.  The kind that makes you wonder what the hell were you thinking when you moved back to Maine.  I went to college in Florida.  Florida where it's not minus 3 this morning.

To offset this hat hair, long john wearing, freeze yourself off anyway day, I thought I'd share a couple images from last July in Cuba.  I chose three where I remember being so hot-all were midday-that I thought I'd burn up.  If I can think that thought when I wander out today, it may help.  It's like singing Jingle Bells in June, when you need to cool down.

Two Cars

They're everywhere-fun.

Into the Channel
Into the Channel

The harbor in Havana-a view from that wide sidewalk called the malecon.  It runs for several miles all along the harbor.

Gift of the Muse
Gift of the Muse

This is a stunning sculpture, carved into a wall at an artist compound.  The courtyard had some shade, but not nearly enough.  I guess the blessing of the blistering heat and sun was this cool lens flare I got.

OK, I'm feeling a bit warmer now and can't wait until it goes up until the 10 degree high forecasted for today.  Hat hair indeed.

I'm happy to travel back in time and go to Cuba with you, Susan! The first shot is so classic with its old cars and tropical colors. That sculpture is amazing! I can feel the heat reflecting from the wall. Hope your cold spell is over soon!

Seriously, so stinking cold. We canceled outdoor recess today and I heard that with the windchill it was a balmy -73 at the top of mount washington, yes -73...

we can only get warmer from here, right?

Honestly...what a gift that was to get the opportunity to go to Cuba! Ricky Ricardo land my friend :). That photo of the sculpture is exquisite. Love the angle and the flare.

Can't believe it was that long ago you were in Cuba. Weather is supposed to get a little warmer with us next week and to be honest I can't wait, especially as not matter what there's no rocking 'hat hair'.

I used to like the cold, but we have grown apart in the last few years. I would think nothing of riding my motorcycle to work when it was 15 degrees, now I'm hard pressed to get on it below 30.

I can feel the warmth in these shots, thanks!

I feel your cold!!! (It's snowing right now...) But I must admit...we haven't hit your temps for a couple of weeks! Hope your trip back in time helps to keep you warm today!!!

BTW...Love the 50's cars in the first shot!!!

I was mighty thankful for heated seats in my car this morning - and it was only 31 here...not wearing a hat yet, but I did buy a headband to try out. I HATE having my hair smashed with a hat! Thanks for warming us up with the memories of summer! Stay warm!

I'm glad you were able to make yourself a little more comfy with your warm memories of balmy Havana!

Love the entire vintage feel you gave the first photo, and that last one of the sculpture is great!

Hang in there, those brutal temps won't last forever (it's almost springlike here right now, at least when the sun is shining - I'll send some of this your way!)

Love, Tex

PS I seem to recall you going to UConn for a bit. Is my memory malfunctioning or am I recalling that correctly?

Anytime you feel the need to heat things up and share some of your Cuba images that would be fine with me. Another group of wonderful images - that did indeed warm up my day, having just returned from my hood-wearing,multiple-clothing-layers photo walk in our blistering 17 degree weather. Thank you for that. Now all I need is one of those drinks with the tiny umbrella.

Would love to be someplace warm right now. I was at our beach early early this morning when it was minus 2 degrees. I took a couple pics of the sea steam and then my fingers were frozen to the camera. It was a beautiful scene though.

You've come up with a wonderful idea for warming up! Great images! We're not that cold here in the 30's. I can't imagine the cold temps I've been reading in the comments!!

Love lens flare, and really like the composition in Gift of the Muse...the car as gave me a chuckle, as I recall them from when I was quite young and couldn't tell if the wings on the back meant they could fly! Cool shots from Cuba. Sorry about your "blistering" cold, deep freezer burns that is. It isn't fun to get that cold. So keep thinking those HOT thoughts. smiles: sharon

I hope you are keeping warm...and for goodness sake get some EAR MUFFS because they are a way to prevent hat hair and by golly I think they'd look cute on you :) Then you can take more selfies.

You've brought back a lot of memories with these pictures. It makes me remember my trip to Cuba like it was yesterday. The temperatures have been so frigid here that it also makes me want to jump a plane!!!
