Blurry Business

Linking with Kat for this month's Exploring with a Camera.  I love this series and always learn something.  Thank you Kat.

Nothing like being a last minute Joe on this blur thing.  I've seen several other's posts about blur and kept wanting to do it.  'Bout time.

The longer I take pictures, the more I enjoy blurred shots.  Maybe it's a different way to self-express or I'm sick of taking the same scenes over and over and making abstraction is a nice distraction.  Maybe it's just a normal thing that hits most photogs at some point or maybe when first taking photos blur seems "wrong" and time teaches you it's really not.  I'm open for interpretation here.  Besides if you like it-you can say it's art.  Have you seen some of the super funky sculpture of late?  Jus' sayin'.

Fluorescent Light
Fluorescent Light

For a long time I've enjoyed shallow DOF images;  I use them a lot.  This was a mistake I ended up liking.  That pink in the backdrop is a woman at the library with her head and back covered with a beautiful scarf.  I wanted focus on the magazine, and to have her more visible.  I shallowed my field too much, but I like it anyway.  BTW....was not at all reading that magazine...trying to be sneaky.

Orange Door 139/365
Orange Door 139/365

Add a low POV to the shallow DOF and this is a shot I like to take and seem to rely on often.  (OMG with the acronyms)

Dusk Rush 149/365
Dusk Rush 149/365

Here's a night shot that gave a sense of "rush hour" with the subtle blur.  I like this too.  I don't like when lights get zig-zaggy.  That says to me I should have used a tripod-but I'm sure some others are able to create awesome images with that.

It was super foggy yesterday and my appointments went over time.  Very frustrated not to get some fog images, but here's one from the last foggy day we had.

Reds 150/365
Red 150/365

And since I got zero images yesterday during "day" light, in order to get my 365 I had to play inside.  It gave a nice chance to mess with a longer shutter.  No I am NOT doing the dance of the 7 veils please and thank you.  I don't know if I like this image or not, but it's different.  I shall call it art.

In the Red Door

Reflections are a form of blur I've used a lot.  This may have been the first type of blur I used regularly.  I've backed off this, not because I don't like it, but to try other things.  However, sometimes I see my dashing self reflected and must stop to record the moment.  Wish I photoshopped that dirty window smudge off my nose, but otherwise this is a fun shot, especially with that cool window on the other side of the room.

Neon Night
Neon Night

Zoom, Zoom.  This was a lame shot that I colorized to do something to salvage it.  Art.  Jus' sayin'.  Are you seeing any theme in me trying to get my 365 done after dark?  When does daylight savings start?

Danger
Danger

And then there's the intentional blur.  I need to remember this more often.  It creates a cool mood.  I tend to use it more as a fall back option when I can't seem to get the shot I want or anchored with something nearby in focus.  This one was intentional however.  I did have to go back to fall to find an example of that.  Perhaps I'll be mindful to try some of these in the next few weeks.

If you're still reading this long tome, thank you kindly.  Tomes R Us.  But, when it's my blog I can do whatever I want...and call it art.  Have a great day.  Blur on!

Project 52

Linking with Tamar and Gina for Project 52.  This is either the 3rd or 4th week in a row I've remembered.  Alert the media.  Really; it's practically a miracle.

How was the last week you say?

What's Inside
What's Inside?

You know, some days are pretty boring.  My clue came when I found myself taking a photo of my fridge.  You never know.  Sometimes these things work and well, as you can see here, sometimes they don't.  Just proving that life is pretty ordinary-at least mine is.

Laundry on the Line
Laundry on the Line

I think this man's life is pretty ordinary too.  How does one dry laundry when it's below freezing?....I totally don't get that.  He has some colorful shirts at least.

Quinn's Dance
Quinn's Dance

Speaking of color....my nephew was in a little variety show at his pre-school.  He's the one in the lime green shirt who knows all the moves.  I guess when you're a kid, life is not ordinary.

And then there are those ordinary moments that if you catch them just right-they're really lovely.  Stream of sunlight and long shadows at the public skating area in town.  Nice.

I'm sure more ordinary things will happen this week too.  I hope my camera catches something "just right" in the coming days.  Thanks for stopping by and saying hello.  BTW....I make some awesome French Toast with those eggs and strawberries and the loaf of bread that's one shelf down.

Sunday's Scavenger

As tradition around here holds, linking with Ashley over at Ramblings and Photos for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

OK, tough list.  It was a bit girlie-girl for me.  Had to stretch and try to make it my own.  I'm totally not above sliding my interpretations as far as needed to fulfill the list.

Lace:  Aha.  Laces.  On shoes.  Stretch numero uno.

Bling:  Aha.  Stretch numero duo.  That metal biz card holder looks a little blingy to me.  The one in my office is kind of an ugly tan opaque plastic one.  Cool blingy table here too.

Wood:  The other day I had a chance to tour a stunning historic home in Kennebunkport currently for sale.  At the front entry is this amazing 3 1/2 story circular stairway-completely made of wood.  I suppose I was a bad realtor, while the other brokers were admiring the house, I ran back to my car to get my camera.  It wasn't optional.

Here's the view that made me run back to my car.  How can one say no to this?:

Fluffy:  No her name isn't Fluffy, tho' that's the perfect name for most any cat.  I'm smitten with my fluffy "Princess P".  I think the love goes both ways.

Fabric:  I hate Walmart.  A lot.  I go about twice a year and only if I HAVE to.  Early in the morning is best to avoid people and the dreadful parking lot.  Walmarts have the worst parking lots.  All of them.
But...there was a silly grab an animal thing for 25 cents in the entry.  I didn't play, just scored a selfie in the mirror, some funny looks (I can take it) and some fabric for the SHS.
Aha.  This may be stretch numero tres.

Thanks for checking in today.  Looking forward to seeing how others interpreted this list.  I bet they have lacey lace and blingy bling and beautiful fabric....but they ain't got that cool staircase. : )
Have a great day.

Off-setting the Present

It's stinking cold here today.  The kind that makes you wonder what the hell were you thinking when you moved back to Maine.  I went to college in Florida.  Florida where it's not minus 3 this morning.

To offset this hat hair, long john wearing, freeze yourself off anyway day, I thought I'd share a couple images from last July in Cuba.  I chose three where I remember being so hot-all were midday-that I thought I'd burn up.  If I can think that thought when I wander out today, it may help.  It's like singing Jingle Bells in June, when you need to cool down.

This is a stunning sculpture, carved into a wall at an artist compound.  The courtyard had some shade, but not nearly enough.  I guess the blessing of the blistering heat and sun was this cool lens flare I got.

OK, I'm feeling a bit warmer now and can't wait until it goes up until the 10 degree high forecasted for today.  Hat hair indeed.

End of Day

Isn't it odd how one's mood can be altered so swiftly from hope to none, from lifted to dropped, from light to dark and back again?  It turns on a dime.  At least mine does.

And isn't it odd that I chose to find a barrier between myself and the oncoming no matter which way the mood was swinging?  Hmmmm.

I wonder what today will feel like in segments and hours and at the end of day.

P 52

Happy Monday.  If there is such a thing.  I suppose if one really loves their work maybe.  I used to love the job I had, but Monday morning still wasn't a favorite.  It is MLK day.  Maybe you have the day off and that makes it a Happy Monday.

I'm rambling.  Linking with Tamar and Gina for Project 52.  You're welcome to join in too.

I'm in a slump.  I've been in them before, all too often.  Not really worried about it, but it is frustrating.  It's not that I don't want to shoot photos, I do.  I'm just kind of blah on the whole thing.  I could blame it on the cold, darkness, or time of year, but I don't think that's entirely it.  I'm most thankful that I'm doing a 365 and that I don't want to bail out on a project I've made a commitment to.  So I shoot.....and often without much enthusiasm.  Sometimes roaming my house in the evening trying to find something, anything to take a photo of.  Sometimes going out in the last light of the day to "get 'er done".  I don't think that's the right attitude for an artist, but I'm confessing it is mine.

BUT, sometimes these blah, blah, blah moments still produce photos I am happy with.  I have to think that by continuing to work on this everyday and pushing thru that my skills are getting better, even if it doesn't feel like it.  And I must say, I get so many kind and sincere comments which I do so appreciate....it sort of shocks me.  My fellow bloggers out there are an amazing support team.  Like having a gazillion (well, 150+) coaches.  Thanks y'all.  It really helps.

Here are a couple of my blah, blah, blah moments from the past week, that seemed to come around.

I hate snow but I do love low POV images.  I was thinking the other day I shouldn't rely on them so often.  Then I thought "why not?  What's wrong with going with something that you like"?  Besides, who wants to hang around in this mess trying to make a nice photo?
Truth is; snow is only pretty when it's falling.  Otherwise it's just a mess.

Rocking Chair 140/365
Rocking Chair 140/365

Sometimes just trying to catch the last light of the day is about all there's time for when you procrastinate.  But....I seemed to make this one work.  Funny how that happens.

I guess that's enough for my outtakes that became intakes....or however that should be said.  There used to be a show called "bloopers".  These are bloopers turned unbloopified.  I'm still not saying it very well, but I think you get it.  As I mentioned before, Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by.

Time to Scavenge Around

Linking with Ashley (again) for this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  Thank you hostess.

Today is sunny.  Yay.  Today I'm going to take Tula Dot to the beach.  Yay.  Today I'm going to wash my car.  Yay.  Today the Patriots play the Ravens at 6 p.m.  Yay.  Today I bought a nice bottle of red wine for my Mom and I to enjoy during that Patriots game.  Yay.  I guess that's enough yay for the day.

Basket:  If you think my snow is gone, think again.  I tromped across a field to a snow covered basketball court to get this shot.  What we do for the SHS.  BTDubs...I didn't have to wait for anyone to get off the courts to take my shot.

Recycle:  Gotta talk to my Pop about buying these.  I bet he's not dialed in that they don't recycle.  He has many other redeeming qualities however.

People Watching:  Living in a small town made this one a smidge difficult for me.  I did make a trip to "the big city" she says sarcastically, of Portland and did some drive by shootings at the red lights.

And there it is.  I'm off to do all my "yay" things.  I hope you have some "yay" things in your day too.  If not, grab a nice glass of red around 6 o'clock and watch the Pats.

Remembering 3rd Thursday

Linking today with Brenda over at "the Nest" for 3rd Thursday.

Not only did I get up at 5:15 a.m. and go to the gym and do "body pump" which I enormously dislike, but go because, well, it's apparently good for you....I also remembered in a timely manner that today is Third Thursday.  Signs are pointing toward it being a good day.  And, cha-ching, bonus baby, the sun is out.

If I understand the premise correctly, for this monthly linky you're supposed to try something that is outside your normal mode or style; stretch-grow-change-swear, etc.

I played with creating my own templates in Photoshop this month.  Seriously, like everything else, it's just not that hard once you know what you're doing.  Frankly I'm wondering now why anyone would buy one since they're so damn easy to make on your own.  My templates are not yet frilly or dreamy or clever or scrap-booky, but they are functional.  I'm a function over fashion kind of person anyway.  It suits.

I think maybe body pump was more like brain pump with sore muscles.  Sarcasm R us this a.m.  There is still a chance it may be a good day.  I know you're thinking...just show me the damn template and shut up.  So, here it is.

Snowy Days Collage BW

I think a cool thing about templates is, you save them.  And then when it's summer you fill the boxes with flowers, green grass, beach scenes, or anything else with vibrancy and without snow.

Thanks for reading and looking this morning, sarcasm and all.  Thanks to Brenda for being the hostess mostest.

Project 52, Duex

Linking this foggy Monday morning with Tamar and Gina for Project 52.

This past week brought warmer weather which equals a smile on my face, saving on oil and snowplowing, and finally an ice free driveway.  Psyche! Still working on the clean roads and clean car, but I'll take what I can get.  It also brought a variety of weather which was a plus for my photo taking endeavors.

Sunday Scavenger in Black and White

Linking with Ashley for the Scavenger.  Yes!

Liking this week's list.   I enjoy the lists that offer a wide berth for interpretation.  That's cuz my brain works in mysterious ways.  I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.  As for the black and white.  Who knows?  Certainly not me.

I've received a few suggestions about what aps are "must haves"....if you'd like to leave some me ideas, please comment.  I'll take them.  I have NO clue where to start and that would be super helpful.

Reflect:  OK, reflections.  I think they allow you to "reflect" on a scene even more so.

Black and White scavenger done.  When I first began shooting images I didn't understand what all the fuss was about over black and white.  I think I'm starting to get it.  It was fun doing a set this way.
Happy weekend to you.  I'm on to football.  Go PATS!

Project 52

Linking with Tamar and Gina for Project 52....because, I remembered.  Which is close to a miracle.  My brain function of late is well, you know, kind of all over the place.  Wishing Tamar and Gina the best with their new linky.  I'll try to be a regular participant.

If you want to participate too, click on thru.   Something that appeals to me-not really many rules.  My brain can handle that.
